Dude... I don't know who you are, nor have I ever heard of your Bbs...
you're not in my league (610, and maybe I'll regret saying this but, feel free
to join), and I have no idea how many of the 14 leagues I carry that you do
participate in... BUT, I've been in 777 since Day-1, (and 444 for several
years) and I have never gotten a single complaint from any of my players
regarding eithrt... other than the most common complaint of "My attacks are all
MIT.. bitch bitch bitch".
Now, I've played BRE for eons, and up until I started 610 in 1999, I
too had lots of "questions" about league play.... ie: cheating...
well let me
tell you something, in all seriousness... start your own league. THEN you'll
see just how f***ed up and outdated the game really is. The game is STILL
designed for the 'days of old', ie: dialup bbs's and Fidonet (ancient)
technology. It simply cannot handle the speed of Internet packet transfers.
Dupe players?? Well DUH!!! Just how the hell would you propose
eliminating that possibility? Back in the day, it wasn't an issue. Who in their
right mind would make long distance dialup calls just for the sake of playing
on multiple boards? These days with telnet, you could theoretically play from
every single board in every single league... even multiple realms from a single
board! As an LC, just how the hell do you suggest we prevent the possibility?
Validation? By what means? Email?... we both know how easy it is to have
multiple email address's. By Phone? Yeah right. Like I'm going to call friggen
Australia just to make sure the guy is who he says he is. By setting BRE to use
'real names' only? It's awfully easy to use fake 'real names'. The best weapon
Rob and I have (maybe others) is that our bbs software will report to us when
users are calling from the same IP address... is that ROCK SOLID proof that
it's a dupe user? NO F-ING WAY! I have several husband and wives on my board..
I have several father and sons on my board... see my point? There is
absolutely NO FRIGGEN WAY dupes can be proved beyond a shadow of a doubt...
To quote Johhny Cochoran, "If it does not fit, you must aquit."
In the 4 years my league has been around, I can count on one hand the
number of times I've seen suspicious activity. And almost all of those have
been instances of someone playing from my Bbs, and they make it obvious that
they also play from another board, and they come here to spy. My outlook? In
a real war, that's called espionage. I've found it keeps my
"real" players on
their toes.
I could go on for a lot longer, but I have to get up for work in 4
hours... my bottomline is this.. if you want to *really* see what's involved
with a BRE league, start one yourself, and I'll join it. You've already made a
response that you "don't have the time", and that, in itself, is
at least part
of the answer to your accusations. You assume those of us that DO run leagues
have 24 hours a day to play watchdog over them...
No flaming was intended here.. I simply wanted to give you the view
from a neutral party and I hope your response will be likewise.
