| subject: | SCSI boot partition beyond 1Gb with Boot Manager |
CW> We have found recently that while greater than 2GB partitions CW> appear fine in technical operation, some applications have problems CW> with them, regarding their space available checking. We noted some CW> DOS, WIN, 95, and OS/2 apps report no space available (on a bare CW> ~2.5GB partition) during initial installation runs; that machine CW> was later repartitioned using only <=2GB sized partitions. PL> So I noticed; one way around that is when the partition PL> free-space drops below 2Gb; then the programs are happy. If I remember from past discussions correctly, this is probably a case of the problem apps using a 'signed long integer' for their space (-2,xxx,xxx,xxx to +2,xxx,xxx,xxx) instead of an 'unsigned long integer' (0 - 4,xxx,xxx,xxx). In either case, unless apps are using something larger than 'long integers' to hold their values, many apps will still probably fail once the partition size is over the 4GB limit as well..................pk. --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Another Good Point About OS/2 (3:772/1.10) SEEN-BY: 50/99 54/99 620/243 623/630 625/160 640/820 711/401 413 430 934 SEEN-BY: 712/311 407 505 506 517 623 624 704 841 713/317 714/906 770/115 SEEN-BY: 771/1320 772/1 10 20 30 40 85 90 100 135 140 235 240 350 380 774/605 SEEN-BY: 800/1 30185/10 @PATH: 772/1 20 712/624 711/934 |
