CW> I'm running 3 M34F's and one Smartmodem 288 at the moment. CW> :( So far I'm -not- impressed with the new 288 model. It has a clunky hook CW> relay (the M34F's are silent), and it makes speaker connection noise even CW> with M0 set. Argh! From inspection, the major design changes with the newer model are: * Space on the PCB for either the PLCC or smaller (newer) QFP datapump as used in PCMCIA modems. The old motherboard used in the M7F, M11F, M34F, V6 (or V4?) and V8 had space for a DPi-series (144DPi, 288DPi/VFC, 288DPi) and the ancient 9600 fax/2400 datapump. * Space on the PCB for either standard or double-density-spaced RAM. The unit I inspected had standard-spacing. * Electromechanical switchhook * Now using PQFP, not MQUAD pack CPU (new cooler design ?? They still seem to be overclocking the CPU by about 10% over rated spec) CW> Also, does anyone have any technical info on the VoiceMaster 288's voice CW> command usage? The model includes -no- technical info on the subject, and If it's like the SmartModem V8 Electronic Secretary, it's slightly proprietary. The best way to find out what the command set is is to get a flash upgrade dump, end-swap it in 16-bit increments and peek through it. Rockwell-standard command set, it ain't, though it might be a subset/superset of it. FREQ VOICEC.DOC from me if you want info on Rockwell voice command set so you can play with it. -- Lewin A.R.W.
