Hi
One of the issues with wire spiders it that if the
wires are not parallel, they create multiple spikes ( that also have
diffraction effects ). Even when parallel, slightly out of focus stars can
create multiple spikes as well. If your focal plane doesn't match the
curvature of the eyepiece you have, this effect is greater. Also, by the
nature of having the wires at angles to the tube to better support, off
axis stars will have the wires slightly non-parallel.
Even give all this I still like wire mounts.
