| subject: | ATM Clement focuser |
To: Reply-To: "Scott Berfield" Anyone out there using the Clement focuser (you don't count, Don!)? The price is far more affordable now and it looks like a great solution in many ways. My one concern is the size - it looks like it wants to be a pretty big triangle when racked all the way in to it's 1" height. My tube is going to be app. 14.5" in diameter and a 9" triangle on one side of it will take up a lot or real estate. On the other hand, the 1" height makes it possible for me to use a smaller secondary than I might otherwise do, and that is something I like a lot. The compliant hinge design looks to me like it will lead to VERY stable movements and minimal shift - which is really good. Any opinions from users? Also, in looking at other focusers I find myself wondering about maybe mounting them so that they are lower than the OD of the tube - perhaps on a flat section on the tube. This could get me enough closer to the secondary to get the smaller secondary with a more traditional focuser. Are there any downsides to doing this? With a 12.125" usable diameter on the primary and a tube with an ID of 14.25, I figure I could lower the focuser a good 3/4" without messing up the light path too badly. Any thoughts? -sb ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------- Don't worry about people stealing your ideas.
