It was an 8" belonging to Marty at Company 7 that I looked through.
The price on them has increased from about $13k to about $65,000 in the
past 12 years or so, according to Company 7. You are right about the
current price for 6" astrophysics apochromats.

I (or we at the NCA/CCCC TMW) have a fair amount of crowns and flints in
the 4" to 8" range, but I don't see the point in making an
achromatic doublet, given the amount of extremely difficult figuring that
would be required of **4** surfaces, of which **3** would be convex.
