Been there, done that. I think you are right to continue TOT (tool on top).

Before that, it is the right moment to check the mirror's bevel if not done yet.
Use chordal strokes at the beginning, then as the curve reaches the edge,
less and less agressive strokes to "spherize" (?) the surfaces.
After 2-3 wets of the grit following the 120 grit, check if the smoothing
proceeds uniformly over the surface. If it is more or less uniform
continue, else go back to 120 grit with gentle strokes to better mate the
surfaces.
