I always get a kick out of looking through really expensive SCT's and then
going back and looking through my home-made Newtonian. Guess which one is
brighter and clearer for a given aperture? And I've looked through one of
Roland Christen's 6" (or was it 8"?) apochromats. It was better
than my home-made newt, to be sure, but was it $20,000 better? I don't
think so. (Heck, that's more than I just paid for a new car!)

For that kind of money, you could buy an absolutely enormous dobsonian
newtonian reflector with all kinds of digital setting circles and you could
see galaxies until the cows wake up in the morning.
