GB> Another problem is the Auto answer function. Try getting into GB> telemate, type "ATA" to simulate a non modem phone call. The GB> modem will go through the carrier search procedure until it GB> selects 1200/75. It will then decide that 1200/75 is present and GB> lock to the line for ever. Thus no more incoming calls. Maybe its missinterpreting the dial tone as a 1200/75 modem tone? Just tried it on my modem here and using factory default even (AT&F) it returns no carrier not connect 1200/75. Maybe you should return you modems to the dealer for repair or software update. An ATI9 on my modem returns Roadster 336 V1.450-V34_DS-0.63 (C) NetComm Ltd. 1996 If your modem has an older revision it may pay to get it updated. GB> I rang Netcomm about this and they gave me an initialisation GB> string, which didn't work. I run a bbs 24hrs/day on a Netcom Roadster 33.6k and this is the string i use AT-SDR=2M1&C1&D2&K3W2S0=0H0 The -SDR=2 bit is for the distinctive ring detection. This modem has run ok for over 2 months on my bbs, also detects faxes fine, have had no complaints from the users. The manual could have a bit more info though, especially in the fax commands area. GB> I feel that these problems are the result of a poor piece of GB> hardware, and no initialisation string will resolve the problem. GB> Is anyone else having similar problems? Hope the init string helps.
