Mark....
A few clarifications:
First, I don't have a 'self-assumed role as a teacher'. I'm just a guy writing
a few articles for which I get paid zip. So don't be too hard on me.
Second, it's interesting that 'The C Users Journal', Sept/92 issue (which I
just received) talks about this very point:
"So we defined pointer to void as a generic data-object poitner type. It has
the same representation as a character pointer, but much more lax conversion
rules. In fact, you can convert between a void pointer and any other
data-object pointer type without writeing a type cast. That gives the behavior
we wanted for function arguments and return values."
Third, I think that you might be getting a bit confused between void functions
and void pointers. They are quite different.
Fourth, there really shouldn't be any confusion for new C learners. They just
have to follow my instuctions and add the malloc.h header file. Since I'm using
void* there aren't any problems with compiling other programs, including stuff
ported from other systems.
Lastly, as to the tone of your initial comments and my replies.... well, that's
best just left alone.
There are 2 Replies.
