In the UNIX System V, Release 4, they have made malloc(), calloc() and many of
the memory functions that return pointers all type void *.  Check out memory.h
and malloc.h on one of the Unix boxes at work.

I don't know if his reasons are 'kosher', but he's right on the defines.
