subject: 33.6K upgrade for modems!

JS>I got the modem back today, Thursday 25th ... so It took say 20 days. I
JS>delivered it myself to North Ryde, and it came back today by courier.

I sent mine by mail from Melbourne and it only took 14 days. :-)

JS>I have not yet interrogated the chipset, but I will soonish.
JS>What Hayes command should I enter to get a picture of wot dose guyses
JS>have dun to me modem ?

The ATI0 ATI6 & ATI9 commands will give you the version and speed but
not much else.

As far as I can see the only difference in the configuration is that the
AT+MS? command now reads 11,1,300,33600 being mod 11 V34, auto select
speed/mod, lowest rate 300, highest rate 33600.
Before the upgrade it read 11,1,300,28800

Can't say how it performs at above 28.8 as that is the highest connect
speed I have had. (even to other 33.6 modems)

JS>Secondly, what might be a bonzer init string do you think ? I am using
JS>Telix for DOS for access to the BBS and Ozemail/Shiva for access
JS>to the net.

The only changes needed to the modem settings are:
AT&F&D2S0=0&W to return the factory defaults, set hang-up & disable
auto-answer if DTR goes low, disable auto answer and write to NVRAM.

After this the settings will be returned when the modem turns on or an
ATZ command is issued. If you can change the init string in telix just
change it to ATZ^M if ^M is the return code used by Telix.

Regards, Bob.
