Subject: Jamie Kennedy TV show results in lawsuit
LOS ANGELES (AP) - A woman who was the target of a prank by ``The Jamie Kennedy
Experiment'' TV show filed a lawsuit, claiming the event has left her depressed
and fearful of crowds, among other afflictions.
Thea Robinson claims in her suit filed Thursday in Superior Court that she
received a call from a temporary agency last July 17, setting up a job
interview on Sept. 26 at a Woodland Hills restaurant.
Unbeknownst to Robinson, the ``restaurant manager'' was actor Jamie Kennedy,
who has appeared in the ``Scream'' trilogy, among other films, and now stars in
a comedy show on the WB, in which unsuspecting people are ambushed by pranks.
Shortly after Robinson's purported ``interview'' began, the lawsuit states,
Kennedy and two ``patrons'' at the restaurant became involved in a heated
exchange. All were employed by the TV show.
When the dispute escalated into a brawl that sent table settings and glassware
flying, Robinson attempted to leave the restaurant.
However, realizing she had left her resume, Robinson went back into the
restaurant dining room and saw two people who ``looked injured,'' according to
her lawsuit. When she again attempted to leave, ``everyone in the room burst
into applause and laughter,'' with some shouting, ``you've been Xed!''
Robinson's suit says she was ``in a complete state of shock,'' and broke down
crying when she later called her husband. In the six months since the prank,
Robinson said she has ``suffered confusion, paranoia, depression, anxiety and
fear of crowds and unfamiliar situations,'' according to the lawsuit.
Attorney Gloria Allred said Robinson had ``pre-existing health problems that
make her particularly susceptible...to this type of victimization.''
The suit alleges fraud, unfair business practices, invasion of privacy and
intentional infliction of emotional distress, among other accusations, and
seeks unspecified general, compensatory and punitive damages.
Allred also said she will seek an injunction to end ``sneak attacks on innocent
members of the public. If we prevail, we will establish a precedent and other
'reality shows' may have to stop this practice, too,'' Allred said. Shows like
MTV's ``Jackass'' have been the subject of similar suits.
Warner Bros. Television referred calls to Big Ticket Television, producers of
the show. A call to that firm was not immediately returned.
