G'day Mick!
MH> In 8mb with all that installed you are probbly thrashing the bejesus
MH> out of your poor little hard disk.
OI! My hard disk is about the only thing on my system that _isn't_ underspec'ed.. :|
MH> Dump __EVERYTHING__ you don't use, especially the multimedia viewer,
I've decided on a compromise, and dumped everything that I _won't_ use.
While I've no particular attachment to the MM Viewer, I do intend using the
Internet stuff in the reasonably near future.
MH> massage your config.sys
Does the word "pretzel" mean anything? :) (Does it? I'm more
think than you drunk I am at the moment... :))
MH> and go for a fixpack above 17 (26 current). FP17 introduced a lot of
MH> performance improvements.
Reading between the lines, exactly how bad was Warp 3.0, straight off the CD?
MH> Also monitor your swapfile and set it's initial size to just above
MH> what it usually expands to.
Learned that trick... :)
MH> More RAM would also make a difference. 12mb for straight Warp
MH> Red/Blue or 16 for Connect plus another 4mb for MM viewer.
Well, yeah, `twould be nice, but having only 30pin slots and being to
bloody minded to pay more than the 72pin counterparts is something of a
problem. The alternative is a new motherboard, video card and disposing of
at least some of the memory that I have I now. The sensible option would
seem to be holding off until I buy a new, flash bang "multimedia"
computer, sans monitor, later in the year. I think.
MH> FixPak #26 and config.sys utils available here if you can tap into a
MH> neighbours fone line 8-)
:) Well, my friends are more generous with their net accounts than their LD
bills, so I'll prolly get it off the Internet at some stage. D'ye have an
FTP site, per chance?
have fun
