From: "Mel Bartels" To: Reply-To: "Mel Bartels" >>> I'll ask an obvious question here: how many major optics manufacturers (small and large volume) use star testing regularly as part of their figuring process? Zambuto? Pegasus? And the list goes on and on. (Some do, but that's a minority.) <<< Well it surely is a time issue for the pros, and besides, why should they? Their production process should yield consistent figures and perhaps early on they did a little star testing to verify but from that point on, you don't need to keep star testing every optic. I see star testing of greatest value to the one-off amateur who needs a little verification that their mirror is going to perform as they expect it to at the eyepiece.
