I had some small problems with my Roadster288 when I first got it. I
started with the factory defaults (ATF&W0) I then turned the
Auto-Answer *OFF* (ATS0=0) so that the _BBS_ or the _mailer_ would answer
the call.

Then I enabled verbal response codes (ATV1) and made sure it would hang up
AND reinitialise if the DTR goes low (AT&D3)

Then saved with another AT&W0

The init. string then only has to be ATZ. 8^)
 
If none of this makes sense, refer to the card (manual) that came with the
modem and check out what each command actually does.
