Hello Thom.

29 Feb 08 07:14, you wrote to me:

TL> Jeff Smith wrote in a message to Thom LaCosta:

Given the fact that people didn't know if you were even available
and that it had been at least a week since people had talked to you. At
least those that I talked too. You hadn't missed anything.

TL>> From the statements in the first two sentances above, are you

Ummm.. Thom. You are the one that brought this subject up. Remember? I
had simply asked a general question about the Elist. You chose to approach
me here and broach the subject. Let's not try to twist things around ok?

 JS>> There are several
JS>> concerns about the current state of affairs regarding the Elist
 JS>> that people have expressed.

TL> I am trying to find them....apparently they didn't comminicate those
TL> concerns to me....please ask them to forward to me.

JS>> I can't speak to the complaints of some
JS>> because I personally have not experienced them in my dealings
JS>> with you reagarding the Elist. The concerns that I pesonally have
JS>> are your statements that the Elist and Fidonet are down toward
JS>> the bottom of your ladder of priorities.

TL> Yes, they are....but that doesn't mean they are ignored.

It usually does mean that the quality diminishes because there is
less interest though. If I no longer care about doing a task I am likely
not to do a good a job at that task as I would of IF I had an interest in
the task.

JS>> That and the fact that you
JS>> have taken a number of steps to make the Elist unreachable via
JS>> netmail to many in Fidonet.

TL> Ah, routed netmail doesn't work? And email is not available? I'm
TL> tryiung to figure out how a Fidnet node could not communicate via
TL> either routed netmail or email....has the technology changed?

Are you capable of receiving updates via direct crash netmail? Given
the security concerns that many/most might have. Routed netmail would
likely be the last choice for sending updates. Many that expressed an
opinion cited their inability to send you updates via crash netmail. I
too had that same trouble and had to resort to email. It seems odd that
since netmail is the default method of communication in Fidonet and most
other FTN's that you would deliberately avoid being available via direct
netmail. Are you reachable? Yes, but only though the channels that you
prefer. It would seem that if your goal was to make the Elist available
to all you would make the Elist available via as many paths of communication
as possible. But hey, maybe thats just me.

JS>> To me that says that your interest in
JS>> the maintenance of the Elist is diminishing.

TL> How would you know? I don't recall submitting logs to you.

Not needed Thom. You have expressed your discontent with people,
and Fidonet a number of times. People have gotten a fair sense of
how you feel from your own posts and words.

JS>> Also as a result you
JS>> appear to be letting your personal opinions affect your treatment
JS>> of people that use the Elist. Another reason for asking Roy if
JS>> treating people equally and working to maintain accuracy and
JS>> integrity were important factors was because those are important
 JS>> to me.

TL> Really, please tell me more.....be factual, as your opinions are
TL> simply that, opinions. There are folks in Fidonet of which I have
TL> very negative opinions....but they are free to list echoes, modify
TL> their listings, delete them....There are also folks in Fidonet who I
TL> respect quite a bit...and the same operations are available to them.

People form an opinon of you and the Elist and react to you as
listkeeper based on what you say and how you act. That is normal. Are
people's opinion of you accurate? That would basically depend on how
accurately your actions and words reflect your true feelings. That
also excludes those few that have a distinct dislike of you and as a
result their opinion of you probably isn't that accurate.

JS>> In preperation for the task of maintaining the/an Elist. I
JS>> registered a domain name (ECHOLIST.ORG) and setup a website to
JS>> support and provide HTTP access to the Elist.

TL> You could always do what I did.....put it up and see if it's used....
TL> But I suspect you would feel more comfortable doing that after you've
TL> whipped up the troops a bit more.

Actually that was my first intention. I made the decision to wait
awhile after talking to Janis. In either case I also wanted to talk to
you prior to making it public. But you chose to make it public here.
