Use some hot water from the tap and warm the lap and mirror.  Use water
that is about as hot as you can keep your hands under the flow or in the
container for a short period of time for a temp.  The pitch should flow
fast enough that you will be able to produce a 1/8" movement with your
fingernail in a few seconds with a pressure of maybe 20lb. and this will
indicate that the lap is still fine.  If the lap isn't moving at that temp,
the pitch is probably too hard.  You should also be feeling the pitch move
about as you press with your finger.
