Fernando Toledo has been working on getting it into Debian (& therefore
Ubuntu). I plan to talk with him about getting it backported to Xenial, and in
the meantime get it up on the FTNApps launchpad ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~ftnapps/+archive/ubuntu/main
There's only an old version for Hardy there now, which I should probably take
down.
Since he's not a Debian Developer (I can't help with this because I'm only
Debian Maintainer, which means I only upload my own pkgs), it will need to be
sponsored by one; for that, his current work is up at:
https://mentors.debian.net/package/syncterm
Just need to use 'dget' on the listed *dsc file to get the sources for it.
If you want to follow along on how it's going, the ITP (Intend to Package) bug
for it is:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=739035
And the RFS (Request for Sponsor) bug is:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=777651
