| subject: | RE: ATM 14 inch f/6 or f/5 |
From: "Tom Krajci" To: , Reply-To: "Tom Krajci" >From: geoff >...The major dilemma as >I come near the end of the hogging out is do I aim for a f/6 or a f/5. As Mel Bartels has said before...make the telescope tube (focal length) as long as is practical for your use. Depending on your application (portable, fixed, solid tube, truss tube, etc.)...different reasons will dictate how long your focal length will be. My sixteen inch is f/6. As focal length gets longer it's easier (in my opinion) to test and figure the mirror, and collimation tolerances become more relaxed. My other "long as you can tolerate" scopes are a ten inch f/7.2 and a six inch f/9.5. I used to have a 4 1/4 inch f/10.5, but I donated it to an astronomy club when I moved out of Louisiana.
