Your in luck because I teach the CNE certification!!! Here is how the
Server boots. Hopefully you get the extra credit that you should for this
answer.

Good Luck!
John

LESSON 4 - MANAGING THE NETWARE FILE SERVER CONSOLE

FILE SERVER BOOT PHASES

1. Boot to DOS or other local OS.
2. Execute SERVER.EXE This file is known as the NetWare kernel file (core
operating system file.) This file is usually located in the default
directory of C:\NWSERVER on 4.x servers and on NetWare 5 servers.
3. STARTUP.NCF -- This file loads from the same directory as SERVER.EXE and
minimally contains the necessary commands to load the disk subsystem
drivers. When the disk driver successfully loads, the NetWare partition
becomes available to the OS, and the SYS volume mounts. Other hardware
drivers and SET parameters may also be stored in this file. The STARTUP.NCF
is analogous to the CONFIG.SYS file on a DOS workstation.
4. AUTOEXEC.NCF -- This file loads from the SYS:SYSTEM directory and
minimally contains the commands to Name the server, register the IPX
internal net number, and initialize all communications drivers and
parameters. Other commands, NLM's and SET parameters may also be stored in
this file. The AUTOEXEC.NCF file is analogous to the AUTOEXEC.BAT file on a
DOS workstation.
