In 8mb with all that installed you are probbly thrashing the bejesus 

out of your poor little hard disk. 



Dump __EVERYTHING__ you don't use, especially the multimedia viewer,

massage your config.sys and go for a fixpack above 17 (26 current)

FP17 introduced a lot of performance improvements.



Also monitor your swapfile and set it's initial size to just above what 

it usually expands to.



More RAM would also make a difference. 12mb for straight Warp Red/Blue

or 16 for Connect plus another 4mb for MM viewer.
