The shorter FL scope will usually allow for wider fields of view at any
particular EP size than the longer scope will.  If you are more interested
in looking at some of the larger structures in the sky (the average scope
has serious trouble with M101 for example) as opposed to seeing the details
on the planets.
The actual focal length is actually a bit more important as the
magnification obtained easily is sort of determined by that and the actual
limit on the magnification is largely dependent upon the objective's
diameter (the Airy disc is determined by that measurement) Bob May
