| subject: | Call Waiting |
AA> I think what Mark wants is to be able to connect to a BBS or whatever AA> with his modem, and if a voice calls comes in the call waiting Beeps AA> will cause his modem to hang up, the phone will ring and he will be AA> able to get the voice call. AA> This is quite a legitimate thing to want and many users I speak to say AA> that it is a family condition that if they are going to use a modem AA> then it must disconnect when a voice call comes in. AA> Unfortunately the better performing modems (such as USR Courier and AA> Netcomm Smartmodem) will not drop carrier even with call waiting AA> beeps. AA> Not much these people can do except to out and buy a cheaper modem or AA> disable error correction in their init strings so that the modem does AA> hang up when the call waiting beeps come in. AA> Alternatively, if Mark notices the slow down etc associated with a AA> call waiting tone he should drop carrier immediately in his comms AA> program and then the phone will ring so he can get his voice call. I Think you can make it drop on the "higher quality" modems if you change the register s10 to a lower value This register sets the duration in tenths of a second, modem waits after loss of carrier before hanging up. The default setting is 7 Mark try changing this to a lower value and tell me if this works This message came from far away in Australia :) ...
