Peter, cast your mind back about 6 months or so ago when the USA SDL was released that caused problems when it wrote to part of the ROM that hadn't been written to up until then. NONE of the Oz SDLs have written to that part of the ROM as yet. My guess is that USR have adopted the course of doing the upgrade themselves so they can replace the faulty ROM parts at the same time and stop the torrent of "my modem doesn't work" messages appearing in the echos.
