Hi tech support I have a 28800 Maestro 288FM modem thats 2 1/2 yrs old. I rarely have any problem connecting to and remaiming connected to the BBS I use... Custom Built in Sydney. However trying that with my local interent provider is sending my phone bill into orbit . The modems their end ring out, hang and I get bumped off. 2 nights ago I had this on auto dial from 9.30pm til abt 11.10 before one of their modems answered Last night I got a hanging moden 4 times before I connected. So instead of 25c Telstra got/will get $1.25. On line theres a very soft click and you know carriers been lost . I live on the Central Coast near Wyong. Initially I use to use a local BBS nr Gosford. But got alot of No carrier problems with that. Changed to the Sydney BBS and while this happens occastionally I can live with it. My current Internet provider is Fastlink at Empire Bay. I am very tempted to change providers. I have complained to Fastlink about this and they just point to my modem being old and 'its an inexact science anyway' Can I get my modem tested ? I have never touched the inet string . Is there a better setting ? since it is 2 1/2 yrs old can I get it upgraded in any way ? Changing net providors is abit more complicated than changing BBS's !
