subject: Courier upgrade

Peter Sureda was raving on in AUST_MODEM about Courier upgrade:
PS> I've been following the threads about the supposed new SDL to
PS> come out for the Courier , and
PS> how the unit has to be returned to USR to get the upgrade .
PS> It is my opinion that if this is the case , then the modem has
 PS> been mis-represented to me , and I
PS> therefore has recourse through the consumer affairs system .
PS> From the front of the box the unit came in " DSP Flash Rom
 PS> Upgradable : Download new
PS> software from our BBS directly to your computer for easy upgrades
 PS> " ,
PS> If there is no luck on that front , then pay your $15 to the
PS> small claims tribunal , at least you will
PS> get to meet USR in the flesh and see if they actually exist . ;-)

 PS> Peter

I just had a sqiz at my Courier box. It has a sticker:

"V34+/33.6k
World Fastest Modem!
Free upgrade to V34bis and future standards"

I'll let some of the guys at the ACCC have a look at this. Looks like a
case of false/misleading conduct to me.....
