| subject: | Re: USR Courier V42bis bugs????? |
Once apon a time Bill Grimsley said, 'USR Courier V42bis bugs?????' to Simon Byrnand... SB> I have just come across a rather disturbing and annoying SB> problem regarding compatibility between New Couriers, and SB> older Sportsters, and I was wondering if this is a known SB> problem, and whether it can be fixed properly. BG> If you repost your message in USR_Modems, addressed to Joe BG> Frankiewicz, you should get the desired response. He is, after all, BG> responsible for the code which resides in ALL Courier-based modems. Unfortunately I dont get USR_Modems, and also I was more interested in any "word of mouth" reports, rather than official replies from USR, as my mate at the ISP has already gone that route. BG> I'm rather more interested in how a local ISP can get away with BG> running US/Canada Couriers, which presumably carry no Austel approval, Perhaps it could have something to do with the fact that I'm in New Zealand, so Austel doesnt really get a look in certifying modems here - at least until New Zealand becomes another State of Australia ;-) Over here Telecom does whats called a "Telepermit" which I guess is the same thing, however I believe our phone system is more similar service tone wise to the USA system(s) than to the Australian systems.... All of the Sportsters I've seen sold new in New Zealand have been US/Canada models, so its nothing out of the ordinary. BG> and secondly, why their modems are running several EPROM revisions BG> behind current models. Perhaps simply flashing them with the latest BG> code will solve the problem? Thats interesting. I assume you're refering to the US/Canada revisions? You wouldnt happen to know what the latest EPROM revision is, would you? Thanks.... Regards, Simon (in New Zealand :) BG> Regards, Bill ...
