subject: Australian USR Courier x2 upgrades

PC>>> There's no reason why anyone should be sending their modem

PC>>> anywhere, This sucks big time.

PC>> Been tossing up whether to replace my old M11F on the mail computer

PC>> with a new shiny V34 job, Ones thing for sure it won't be an Austel

 PC>> Courier.

JC> Peter, cast your mind back about 6 months or so ago when the USA SDL was

JC> released that caused problems when it wrote to part of the ROM that

 JC> hadn't been

JC> written to up until then. NONE of the Oz SDLs have written to that part

 JC> of the

 JC> ROM as yet.

JC> My guess is that USR have adopted the course of doing the upgrade

 JC> themselves so

JC> they can replace the faulty ROM parts at the same time and stop the

 JC> torrent of

JC> "my modem doesn't work" messages appearing in the echos.

As a former VICTIM of the killer SDL you speak of, I can only say that this

is the most logical thinking on the subject ...so far.

And seeing as I am Broke at the moment... I am willing to bet anyone

anything that your reasoning is correct.
