Ian, at 23:05 on Mar 21 1997, you wrote to Arthur Marsh... IS> Meanwhile the performance of a rival 56Kbps technology IS> from US Robotics has come under fire after independent tests IS> by Windows Sources magazine failed to achieve download IS> speeds higher than 44.8Kbps [..]" Can't remember now if you're a USR_Modems echo lurker or not, but at least one fellow has posted his Courier's link diagnostics screen which indicated a Rx link rate in excess of that 44k8bps figure. I'll see if I can locate the relevant message and do a quick x-post for you. Later: It was actually in a message which I x-posted from USR_Modems to this echo last week - 'twas a 48000/24000 x2/V.34 connect, BTW. The most surprising aspect that I've noticed so far is that the bandwidth of some x2/V.34 links is so poor that the Tx rate is somewhere around the 24000bps mark, yet the x2 downlink is rocketing away at over double that figure, say 48kbps or so. x2 might be a little specialised, but I'm still fairly impressed so far. The truth is out there... :) Regards, Bill --- MsgedSQ/2 3.50* Origin: Logan City, SEQ (3:640/305.9) SEEN-BY: 50/99 54/99 620/243 623/630 625/155 640/201 206 230 305 306 311 702 SEEN-BY: 640/820 821 822 823 829 711/401 413 430 934 712/311 407 505 506 517 SEEN-BY: 712/623 624 628 704 841 888 713/317 714/906 772/20 800/1 @PATH: 640/305 820 712/624 711/934 |
