Hamish, at 18:43 on Mar 17 1997, you wrote to Bill Grimsley... HM>> I heard the other day that K56Flex is far superior (and HM>> faster) anyway. BG> How so, when BOTH x2 and K56Flex are restricted to a maximum link rate of BG> 53kbps in the United States? HM> I heard that indeed x2 was limited to 53k in the USA due to HM> excessive transmit levels required, but that K56Flex was not HM> having this problem. It's an FCC limitation, and currently applies to both 56k protocols. > Speed 46666/24000 > Speed 48000/24000 HM> So much for 56k. Dunno, look at the Tx link rate. The bandwidth is such that V.34 could only handle a 24k connect, yet x2 still went through at 48k. In my book, that's a pretty impressive result on what is obviously a less than perfect line. BG> Incidentally, is K56Flex actually available to the general public yet? HM> Unknown. I think there's likely to be a significant lead HM> time before this is actually being used in Australia to any HM> great extent, anyway. Have since learned that the first generation of Rockwell chipsets is faulty, and replacements won't be avalable for around another 2 weeks, so the answer is essentially no, K56Flex is not available just yet.
