-= Pete Replied to John Clarke about: Australian USR Courier x2 upgrades =-
G'day John
PC> Been tossing up whether to replace my old M11F on the mail
PC> computer with a new shiny V34 job, Ones thing for sure it won't
PC> be an Austel Courier.
JC> Peter, cast your mind back about 6 months or so ago when the
JC> USA SDL was released that caused problems when it wrote to part
JC> of the ROM that hadn't been written to up until then. NONE of
JC> the Oz SDLs have written to that part of the ROM as yet.
You could be right John, this is the 1st valid reason anyone has
suggested for the "send it back" setup here in oz.
JC> My guess is that USR have adopted the course of doing the
JC> upgrade themselves so they can replace the faulty ROM parts at
JC> the same time and stop the torrent of "my modem doesn't work"
JC> messages appearing in the echos.
But as i have a daughterboard model which wasn't affected by the dud
FlashROM problem i'd at least like a choice, USR Aust are assuming all
Courier modem owners are stupid (no comment from the rest of ya
non-USR owners) and don't know the difference.
Pete.
