Yup, those spider webs can sure gum up your diffraction pattern... Try closing the tube up tight. A plastic cup fills the focuser, shower caps cover the ends. As to keeping insects away from people? Right now I still have a bunch of big welts leftover from last weekend's views of Mars. This is in spite of the 100% DEET that I used. (My friend used so much DEET that you can now see his footprints in the asphalt where he was standing when he applied it) So if you find an environmentally friendly way, please share it.
