IL> Hello...
IL> I was wondering if anyone that was wise enough could reply
IL> and answer my question as follows:
IL> I have an INTERNAL 14.4k modem that (like all internal
IL> modems) emulate the fact that it's using com port 2 when it's
IL> actually free, what I wanna know is that could I use and
IL> connect at speeds of an EXTERNAL 33.6k modem(or 28.8k) using
IL> com 2 when the internal 14.4 fax modem's still in there?Or do
IL> I have to take it out first..I would use another com port but
IL> strangely I don't have anymore! Please reply to me on the BBS
IL> if you know the answer...
IL> Thanx and don't forget to call Rise of Tha Ironics! Yeah and
IL> you should predict by now maximum speeds of up to 14.4k!

IL> ... Man that lightning sounds close... NO CARRIER

In fact you DO have 2 more. ...comm3 and comm4

reset your internal modem to com3 IRQ5 (if the sound card is not using
IRQ5....If it is then your internal modem might
let you use IRQ7 (the printer does not really use that even though it is assigned)

Now just enable the real comm2 on your I/O card or in the BIOS of your
motherboaard and use comm2 for your external modem.

Com2 IRQ3 for the external and Com3 IRQ7 for your internal
