Jerry,

If you are trying to make a 16" mirror only 3/4" thick it had
better be well supported or it will potato chip on you in the center where
it is thinnest. You can tell when its doing it, the Ronchi looks like an S
and doesn't change with the orientation of the mirror. Since it is a
gravity effect it will always effect the north south direction. You want to
know what to do? Well, for starters don't try to make a mirror 16" in
diameter and only 3/4" thick unless you are very very experienced.
(the kind of experience you are going to gain in the next week will do
nicely)

Then try to set up your apparatus as close to vertical as you can Some
folks put it on a ladder and support the mirror at 20 degrees or so, but it
really doesn't matter since it will continue to potato chip when you use it
unless you support it well.

Welcome back.
