subject: Reinstallation Woes

I'm having trouble reinstalling Warp 3.0 (Red Spine) to my D: drive.

Having a small (420 Meg, FAT-formatted) C: drive and a larger (830 Meg, HPFS

-formatted) D: drive, I thought I'd set up my system to dual-boot with DOS on

the C: drive and OS/2 on the D: drive.

I backed up the D: drive, and reformatted it HPFS again (just to wipe it clean),

then commenced to reinstall with the Advanced option, telling it to install to D:.

The installation program threw me into FDISK, and eventually told me to set a

partition 'installable'. The option, however, remained (and remains), obstinately

greyed-out.

The D: drive has a single 830 MB partition, and I have an older BIOS - no

EIDE, or LBA, support. I have heard and read repeatedly that Warp will install

on a large hard drive with no extra support needed, as long as it's installed

within the first 528 MB (1023 cylinders from memory). My IBM1S506.ADD

driver is current enough (30/10/95), and manages to support the larger HD

normally - I replaced the original on the installation disk with the updated

driver, so this isn't likely to be the problem. The partition on the D: drive is

marked Primary, although this shouldn't matter anyway. I can't get FDISK to

mark it Installable, or Startable. In fact, the only options available to that

partition are "Set up Boot Manager" - i.e change the wait time or
information

displayed during booting, "Delete Partition" and "Exit".

I've tried setting up a smaller (500 MB) partition on that drive and setting that

as Installable with no better results. What am I missing here?

I could set up two partitions on the C: drive - assuming that method works,

but this way (one OS per drive), if I can get it up and running, has the virtue

of simplicity. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get that second

drive marked as Installable and get OS/2 onto it?

Any help received with thanks!
