G'day Stewart,

SG> this piece of shit.... i have been through every AT command

I have one of these too. I found it to be problematic at first but now it's
okay. Chances are you have an old Telstra Touchfone 200 on the same line.
Some BBS's will NOT handle this.

SG> the first two times you connect to anything, the modem
SG> will drop carrier after 60 seconds, god only knows why
SG> it seems to keep dropping in speed until there is about 40 seconds
SG> between any incoming packets then it just dies, but on the third
SG> connect everything works perfectly until i turn the modem off, i
SG> suspect its to do with one of the s registers, but ofcoz, you it wont
SG> let you modify all of them only some :(, its really nice trying
SG> to debug when it wont display EVERY s reg with a at&v, you have to
SG> do it all by hand.... ohjea, the Carrier Dectect led has NEVER EVER
SG> EVER lit up atleast once....

The modem should work fine on AT&F, factory defaults. They work fine on my
modem. There are two possible problems- the lines are VERY noisy or
the modem is shoddy. Get it replaced, you shouldn't have to put up with
that.

With your init strings- just use AT&F+MS=11,1,300,28800%E2\N3%C3&D0
This string is the most compatible.

PS. Have you tried calling other BBS's? Some of them have their own problems...
