While threatening to strike, Terry May said to Mark Yoder:
MY>> Why must he be compared to anyone just because he's anything.
TM> My guess is it means a lot to other blacks that he's black. In fact,
TM> judging by my own personal experience, he's gotten other blacks VERY
TM> excited. So to ignore his race would be to bury your head in the sand.
TM> The media is perfectly proper to acknowledge his race. Like it or not,
TM> we are NOT a color-blind society.
I'm not saying to "ignore" it, but the Headline should be "Tiger Destroys
Field at Augusta" rather than "African-American Woods becomes First Black
Master's Champion." Let's pay homage to his accomplishment -- He won by more
strokes than anyone ever has, he scored lower than anyone ever has... what
does it matter what color or race he is?
BTW, I think he pointed out, he's actually 1/4 more of Asian decent than
African-American.
MY>> He's a tremendous golfer. He's better than Nicklaus was,
MY>> compared to their contemporaries.
TM> He might be better than Jack was at age 21, but he has a looooooooong
TM> way to go before he passes the Golden Bear in terms of career
TM> accomplishments. Let's not get too carried away. He's had a
TM> phenominal rookie year, but it's still too early to canonize him.
I didn't compare careers... You were exactly in line with what I said in
your first phrase. At the age of 21, comparing Tiger relative to his PGA
peers and Jack to his relative PGA peers, Tiger is better and has done more
at his age.

... Terry's egotism is a plain case of mistaken nonentity.
