Since it seems I started this wide ranging discussion in my reference to
"PC Slot" let me add more fuel to the fire.

I have in my hands a "Linksys Instant Wireless Network PC Card v 2.5"

This card is designed and meant to be plugged into what IBM calls
"Express Card/PC Card Slots" Plainly stated in my IBM laptop manual.

Since IBM sees fit to designate that slot as a PC Slot, that is good
enough for me, ergo I will also do the same.
