Yes, change of motherboard (486 with AMI BIOS to Pentium-class with Award BIOS). It hasn't given Linux any dramas, for what that's worth. Actually, when booting Linux, the partition check is slightly odd; it says [PTBL] and some new geometry (which I don't think is any different to what it already knew), which would tend to confirm your theory.
