Terry May had this to say to Rob Ferrara and I quote:
RF> People are comparing Tiger Woods to Arthur Ashe and Jackie
RF> Robinson after his spectacular Masters victory. Those are not
RF> good comparisons. A better sports figure to compare him to
RF> would be Muhammad Ali. He has almost single-handedly
RF> resurrected his sport and made it interesting. Go Tiger!
TM> Ali was a GREAT fighter, but it was his personality that
TM> elevated him and his sport to where even non-boxing fans
TM> became interested. Woods, on the other hand, has a
TM> relatively quite personality. His game does all the talking.
I would say they're very similar. Woods' persona is
different but very magnetic also. His smile, his poise, and his
sense of humor (jumping up and down to see his shot on the
eighteenth hole Sunday when the crowd was hampering his line of
sight) are not unlike Ali's. They're not identical but I think
that comparison is the closest if there has to be one.
