Hello Thom.
28 Feb 08 23:08, you wrote to me:

Before I presented the idea publically I wanted to get some input
from people and from you too. It is important to find out just how much
support there still is for an Elist. I also didn't want it to look like
I was trying to pull the rug out so to speak. There also was the matter
of whether I would be a replacement or an alternative. I had asked Janis
if she knew what your prognosis(sp) might be. She only stated when she had
last been in contact with you a week or so ago and that you were having
issues. If it was just a matter of you having some hardware troubles we
wouldn't be having this conversation now. Shit happens to us all Thom and
I am the first to say that Fidonet is only a hobby and that there are
many things that are more important. But as people change so do their
priorities of what is important.
TL> From the statements in the first two sentances above, are you saying
TL> that is not how the echolist is operated at this time?
That is how I peceived it to be looked at by Roy and several others.
I worded my question that way to Roy to find out just what the conflict
between you and him started from. There are several concerns about the
current state of affairs regarding the Elist that people have expressed.
I can't speak to the complaints of some because I personally have not
experienced them in my dealings with you reagarding the Elist. The concerns
that I pesonally have are your statements that the Elist and Fidonet are
down toward the bottom of your ladder of priorities. That and the fact that
you have taken a number of steps to make the Elist unreachable via netmail
to many in Fidonet. To me that says that your interest in the maintenance
of the Elist is diminishing. Also as a result you appear to be letting your
personal opinions affect your treatment of people that use the Elist. Another
reason for asking Roy if treating people equally and working to maintain
accuracy and integrity were important factors was because those are important
to me. In retrospect I should have added the fact that I wasn't speaking
to the current status of the Elist.
In preperation for the task of maintaining the/an Elist. I registered
a domain name (ECHOLIST.ORG) and setup a website to support and provide
HTTP access to the Elist. Initially it would offer about the same as yours
does currently. I have also setup Echobase which I aquired some time ago and
am in the process of setting up batch files and scripts necessary to process
and package the files. I have also added Echolist.org to my mail server to
handle the necessary email accounts. Even though I had wondered for awhile
if a change was needed I only finally decided to take action and speak up
less than a week ago.
I had considered making an announcement but decided to wait to talk to
you and Janis. And to find out from others what the real concerns were about
the current Elist. More than being told of a concern I wanted to understand
the reason behind the concern.
Hopefully I have made my intentions a little more clear and look forward
to your thoughts and imput.
