G'morning Alex,

MM> here and becomes a weed...

Mmmm ... should have been "berserk" and evokes the idea of a wild
Norse warrior going into a frenzy in battle.

AS> Is there any native agriculture ?

New Zealand lay untouched by humans until 800 years ago, and had
a rain-forest coverage featuring a range of indigenous trees,
ferns and small plants.

The Maoris brought their sweet potato and cultivated that, burning
off the forests to clear land; settlers from Europe then started
bringing in grains and legumes in the 1800's.

The idiots who brought in gorse from Scotland to make instant
fencing created a nightmare; the spiky menace spread across the
land here like wild fire, and now costs millions every year to
grub out and kill.

Many plants, ornamental garden plants in their own country, get
spread by birds and wind, root anywhere in this fertile land and
turn into herbacious monsters.

AS> Are there people in the world who are happy with their political system
 AS> ?

Probably not ... wherever there are more than two ways to deal
with people's problems there are politicians intent on trying a
yet another untested way...

AS> All I want of politic is that it didn't hinder people just to live. But
AS> even that seems an unreachable luxury ;)

Yes, I'm with you there !
