G'day all,
Here is some news concerning one of the upcoming 56.6K analogue modems:
NetComm, Australia's Leading
Modem Manufacturer, Embraces Breakthrough Analogue Technology
NetComm says new technology will guarantee the future of
analogue data transfer
Australia's leading modem manufacturer, NetComm Ltd, announced today that
it would lead the way in applying new breakthrough high-speed modem
technology.
NetComm's Marketing Manager, Mr Chris McPherson, said that the new
technology, developed by Rockwell Semiconductor Systems and which will
allow connection to the Internet at speeds of up to 56 Kbps, extends the
future of the analogue modem.
"This is groundbreaking news for our industry and our customers," Mr
McPherson said.
"When the technology is implemented it will bring analogue data transfer
speeds close to ISDN capability, almost double the analogue speeds possible
now," he said.
"NetComm will move as soon as possible to incorporate the Rockwell
technology in our range of modems and so pass on the benefits to the
Australian market.
"There had been some concern in the market about the need to migrate to
digital systems such as ISDN, which are considered more expensive and
harder to install.
"With this new high-speed analogue connection available, end users won't
have to move to digital systems to get ISDN-speed download performance.
"As soon as Rockwell releases the chipsets incorporating the new
technology, NetComm will be ready to provide a 56 Kbps modem, and as always
NetComm will provide an upgrade path for its current customers," Mr
McPherson said.
NetComm's stategic alliance partner in the US, Boca Research Inc, which in
turn has a longstanding collaborative relationship with Rockwell, has also
announced plans to adapt the technology to a new 56 Kbps analogue modem.
Rockwell announced the 56 Kbps technology in the US on Tuesday, and expects
to demonstrate its transmission capabilities at the November 1996 Comdex
show in Las Vegas.
"The new analogue technology utilises the high-speed digital connection to
the telephone network that Internet service providers and corporations
already have. Often it is only the connection from the home user to the
local telephone switching centre that is analogue."
NetComm Ltd is Australia's largest and most innovative modem manufacturer
and software provider. It is listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and
provides modem and modem software solutions and services across almost all
industry sectors, and to hundreds of thousands of educational and home
users in Australia.
