>> There are several very reliable programs available for patching RTE200, >> and most work just fine on FAST systems. > Sounds great. A few years back when I moved the BBS onto a PII 450, I tried >some patches. If I remember right, I tried several patches and they fixed mos > of my programs but did not work on a few. For those few I used a TSR and it >worked. I know the author of one of the doors (he works with me) and he can' > help... so I'm interested in the patches you tried that work on your 2.33 GHz >machine. I definately do not like using slowdown.com to emulate a 5 MHz 286 : Have you tried these RTE200 patch archives yet?: tppatch, PENT2, ctbppat, and patchcrt - I've got links for downloading them in the Misc. Lord-related programming links table on my site's Lord Links page. http://www.fidotel.com/public/camelot/camelot5.htm To access programs fast, you should go to the Code directory of the Nightfallgames.com site. http://www.nightfallgames.com/files/ There are times when an RTE200 patched program may work at one CPU speed level, but not at higher ones. I'm not sure why that is, but I think I've seen it happen a few times. And there are of course some old DOS programs that simply will not work on a system running MS Windows XP, which is finicky in that manner. I used to be able to use Norton Utilities Quick Unerase utility all the time, but it and other NU programs won't run under Win-XP. Especially if they are programs that work at the BIOS level which WIN-XP does not allow dos apps to do. And of course, old Norton Utilities apps meant for use with older versions of Windows are completely unusable if you have NTFS formatted hard drives. They only work with FAT32 and so on. Sometimes you just have to give up on old applications and find new ones that will work with your O.S., or with a high-speed CPU. I've been told that its much more difficult for anyone to use DOS apps with MS Vista, but don't have any details on that. Other than that Synchronet is the ONLY bbs software that is Vista-Compatible certified by Microsoft to date. I used to love PCBoard and Wildcat bbs's but never hear about them any more. I think that's because both BBS programs were abandoned perhaps. Donald. --- BBBS/LiI v4.01 Flag* Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38) SEEN-BY: 633/267 5030/786 @PATH: 261/38 123/500 379/1 633/267 |
