Pronoun reference confused. In "he was a Secret Master of Fandom," the
"he" referred to the will not be named fan, not Robert Heinlein.
My own personal irritation with fandom is over-extending of my personal
irritation with a few people in it, who seem to betraying non-commerical
alternate sources of identity by suggesting that not only is writing
something one does in one's spare time, but that I should get a real day
job, probably in graphics arts since I seem to like to do that (no decent
human being has hobbies when she doesn't make enough to own a house and
car).
And I'm particularly frustrated because I'm making the same from the
writing as from the day job, thanks to Avon, and know (a) if Avon doesn't
pull off its plans in proper fashion, I' won't be making the same, (b) so
where should I be putting my energies? SF is like a second marriage for me
(the first was poetry), so I know there was life before writing s.f. and
being an s.f. writer is better than being a poet, but maybe something else
would be better yet.
