That's a mistaken notion that a lot of even Arizona residents have.
There is no statutory requirement for an entity to check weapons.
There has been an inferred requirement on the part of governmental
entities, based on state constitution. It works less than perfectly in
practice, with many governmental entities effectively saying "Screw the
law, Screw the constitution, we're gonna do what we decide to do, and
you have no recourse, so go piss up a rope."
We're a long way from being as bad off as f'rinstance
Massa-freaking-chusetts, or Kalifornicate, but we're experiencing
significant pressure on legal gun ownership and carry.
