subject: Burning leg!

SH<| *** Quoting Bobby Queen to All dated 08-25-96 ***
I have yet ANOTHER problem that has started recently and I wondered if
anyone else has experienced this. My legs have been giving me loads of
problems already but I have this one spot on one leg that will start
burning like someone poured gasoline on it and lit it. I reach down
   and
feel the leg and the spot where its burning is RED HOT when the rest of
the leg is cool to the touch. This only happens every once in awhile
and usually happens when I'm staying up all night playing on my
computer. I just wondered if anyone else has experienced this and what
can I do for it, if anything. Talk at ya l8er.

SH<|I started having that problem quite a few years ago -- my left thigh
ould
<|burn so bad that it would keep me awake at night. In the beginning,
believe
<|it or not, the only thing that would help would be a heating paid. Then
it
<|got so bad, the Doctor and I tried different medicines. The one that
finall
<|worked for me was Xanax. It's a nerve blocker and
<|addictive but I only use it when it starts to burn so bad
<|it keeps me awake. I do know there are other nerve
<|blockers out there, but for one reason or another they
<|don't work or counter-act with my present medications.
SH<|Also, there are 2 thoughts on the burning sensation -- either the nerves
are
<|dieing or getting better - I guess in my case (cuz of the
<|PPS), it was dieing. I've started taking mestinon (trial
<|basis). It's used in MG patients and it's suppose to help
<|relieve the fatigue and help rebuild some of the nerve
  <|endings. Only time will tell.
SH<|Hope you get it taken care of!.
I use traction to relieve these symptoms and find that all my post polio
symptoms have gone. Pain is very dibilitating and if you tolerate it
long enough it will make your life a misery.

ps 3rd thought on nerve problem is that the muscles are so tight around the
nerves that they cause a blockage.
