      BELTSVILLE, Md.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 30, 1996--North American
Vaccine (AMEX:NVX) announced today that the Danish National Board of
Health has granted regulatory approval of a combined DTaP-IPV vaccine for
the prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (whooping cough) and
polio.
 
This combination vaccine, which includes the Company's
acellular pertussis vaccine, was developed jointly by Statens
Seruminstitut of Copenhagen, Denmark and the Company, and is the
first DTaP-IPV vaccine licensed for use anywhere in the world.
 
The acellular pertussis component of the vaccine consists of a single,
purified pertussis antigen manufactured using a novel and patented
inactivation process.  The regulatory approval is for all primary
and booster doses for infants and children in Denmark.
