folks, i've got a question for you all and i'm hoping to hear from as
many people who read these echos as possible...

every week (more or less) i post a message containing descriptions of
the latest viruses/worms/trojans/whatevers being reported in the wild,
i'm sure if you read virus, virus_info, or dirty_dozen you've seen them
as they're just about the only traffic these echos seem to get
anymore...

i've been thinking lately about the nature of signal and noise in a
discussion forum (as in the signal to noise ratio) and i've begun to
wonder if maybe those news posts actually represent noise rather than
signal... clearly they have the ability to inform but just as clearly
they are not contributing to conversations in any way... i want your
input - do you think they make these echos less enjoyable to read? does
anyone actually derive benifit from them? is anyone even there?

i'd like to see discussion here, i'd like to see people bring up topics
that have their attention... for example, what do think about princeton
researchers creating proof of concept viruses for electronic voting
machines in order to demonstrate the risks the current machines pose to
the democratic process? what do you think about a malware researcher
trying to make 100% undetectable malware using hardware assisted
virtualization technology? what do you think of those mac ads that
suggest the mac computers are immune to malware?

what can i, or we, do to help bring more discussion here?
